Mousy Babe

this is an ode to a good and strange life. we’re in a band. we work sometimes. we travel a lot. we drink coffee, alcohol and gasoline. sometimes we fight and struggle with weird problems. but best of all we meet some weirdass people.

‘Gold to Refine’ : A New Song

Em and I have a new project called The Sounds of Domestic Living. I know we have a lot of things going on with strange names like the Nervous People Collective, and it might be hard to keep straight. But this is just a band of the two of us mostly, but also guests and friends.

Our first song is available now! Here’s some basic deets on the team behind this recording: produced by Greg Maly of Basshound. engineered by Patrick White and Greg Maly. percussion by Nathan Graham, also of Basshound. song, vocals, violins, guitar, keys by Emily & Susan Hsu.

the song title is a reference to a beautiful 18th century hymn. It was first published in 1787. Interestingly, the sole attribution was to a person listed as ‘K.’ How disquieting. Like Kafka. It was perfect.

The verse from which our song title comes is:

“When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply:
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine”

We’re unveiling the new song as part of our guest bloggings at The Vinyl District on Thursday, where you’ll be able to download the song for free. You can also listen to the song at our myspace page myspace.com/thesoundsofdomesticliving, and join our Facebook page at facebook.com/thesoundsofdomesticliving.
