As far as mousybabe (DC) is concerned, this weekend is all crafts & schtuff. The Hello Craft “Summit of Awesome” is happening from Friday to Sunday, and it’s gonna be a fun convergence of lots of crafting talent from across the country!
Speakers include Maria Thomas, the CEO of Etsy.com, and Jenny Hart, of Sublime Stitching, whose website is giving me crazy ideas for new handmade Clov paraphernalia. Like how about a knit bomb? or screenprinted skwatch?
I’ll be attending a few of the afternoon sessions, prolly a demo on how to make a small book or embroider or somethin’. All I know is I’ll have mad mousy skillz when I’m done this weekend. The event is the result of months of crafty plotting by some of the same kickass ladies – Sara Dick, Kim Dorn & Tina Seamonster – who brought us Crafty Bastards in past years!
Also, I’m psyched for this Friday’s DC premiere of Handmade Nation (above), a documentary about the growing subculture of crafting and its punk culture and the D.I.Y. ethos. Get your tickets here while you still can! It’ll be held at the Washington, D.C. Jewish Community Center, 1529 16th St. NW.
