Raised Bed Garden Project for Spring 2015

New project this spring that is up and running–an elevated vegetable garden table planter! After a good amount of research, I found this awesome mom-and-pop company in Cali, called Mini Farm Box, that makes all kinds of planters using cedar. It was exactly what I was looking for…perfectly sized for urban homes where you have… Read more »

How to get your dumplings really … bitchy

I could eat dumplings for every meal for the rest of my life, and I think I wouldn’t have one complaint. But sometimes unless your fried dumplings have that delicious crispage underneath (you know what I mean), you’re kind of being cheated of the full deliciousness.

New Pinterest Board — Style Crush!

I get occasional hints at work and shopping g-friends that I tend to buy the same version of whatever dress or shirt or skirts that I already have. My response is always, “Well it’s because I know what will work and what won’t for my shape and height!” That said, they have a point…

It’s become a half-facetious project of mine to figure out what might qualify as “elegant loungewear” to wear around the house…

  • I Never Promised You a Rose Garden

On my walk home the other day, I noticed a thorny bush with precious little buds starting to form – a rose bush! It was still a spiny, hairless little skeleton of a bush from the winter season, but in no time it’ll be blooming. And people will stop to smell the lovely roses. I… Read more »

  • Pitchfork Classic Series Takes on Belle & Sebastian

Juicy. I just found out, via the 9:30 Club email list, that Pitchfork (some of us around here like to call them Bitchfork) has started a documentary series called Pitchfork Classic focusing on some seminal indie rock albums. The latest of which is none other than our beloved Belle & Sebastian! Ah the band for… Read more »

  • Wooden Inspiration

Saw this stool at an East Harlem bakery (Savoy) and had to snap a photo. It’s a wooden crate with steel reinforcements that was turned upside down to serve as a stool seat. Genius! A crate-turned-seat with a natural cottage chic aesthetic.

  • Kamameshi + Bamboo + Salad Lunch

I love eating out! hehe. The whole experience of being seated at a cozy table, being in good company, ordering a coffee if it’s breakfast or yummy appetizers on a special occasion, etc., etc. But there’s also something about making food at home that’s equally satisfying, in a very different way. It just feels …… Read more »

  • A Rubber Stamp Heaven in Lower Manhattan

I discovered a charming little stamp shop in the East Village called Casey’s Rubber Stamps. So neat that a lovable place like this has survived and can still thrive in Manhattan. Check out a brand new 1.25″ logo stamp we custom-ordered for a measly $12! I’ve never tried to custom order a stamp before, but… Read more »

  • Mediterranean Shrimp & Cranberry Couscous

I been on the prowl for some fast meal solutions — I really want to make my own food on weeknights, but a full day’s work and a round of Kwando can really kick my ass. But here’s something I tried that took no time and was pretty scrumptious: Mediterranean shrimp and couscous in nary… Read more »

  • The Space That Wasn’t Meant to Be

Fate has spoken at last, and after two rounds of bidding, our quest for the raw space in Ft. Greene is no more (the one I hinted at in this post last month). So it’s back into the feeding frenzy of homebuyers for us, sigh… We are a bit bummed, but losing it is in… Read more »

  • Spring Fever. Daffodils and Baby’s Breath.

This past weekend was one of those days where you step outside, and you can’t help but feel exhilarated to be alive. There are signs of spring – the first sounds, since the start of winter, of birds singing in the morning, the sun beaming, and the temperature is still pretty crisp but balmy and… Read more »
